From the age of 13 Sam has had an un-deniable passion for all things guitar; What started as a forbidden listen to AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’ album on his fathers tape player has developed into something far greater.
2007 saw The Sugarman move into his first gigging band; he soon garnered interest and was frequenting the local clubs and festivals
Having built up a reputation as a reliable and competent player across the South of England, he played alongside some of the most exciting artists in the UK and contributed to several online guitar blogs and tutorial sites.
2013 saw the birth of Sugarman Sam as a frontman and into leading his own band. He is now playing what has always been his true love - classic british blues/rock. With his power quartet, The Voodoo Men, he has the chance to follow in the footsteps of some of British music's most iconic guitar players and songwriters.
See you on the road...
Gareth Goodwin is a first class bass player.
With the band since its inception in 2013, he has provided signature grooves and low end prowess that have become a staple to the SSVMD sound.
He has appeared in many Hampshire-based bands over the last few years, with credits including Marvin & The Hangliders, Harpmeister Dave Raphael, Watch Out and singer/songwriter Scott Freeman to name a few.
Gareth also frequents the local blues jam circuit and it was here that the seeds of what would become 'The Voodoo Men' were sown. The rest, as they say, is history.
Whilst plying his trade, Mr Goodwin enjoys real ale and a good pub in which to drink it. So when you see him at a show make it a pint....or two!
Paul McCormick. Affectionately referred to as the '6ft Pianist'.
He provides the ivory touch as well as bringing the classic hammond organ sounds as well.
Paul has spent the bulk of his career in well established covers acts playing across the South of England and has also dabbled in local bands for good measure.
Having been recommended by a mutual musician friend, Paul came to jam with the then trio before being invited to join on a full time basis. His abilities also stretch to the occasional Keytar solo (!) as well.
When not travelling the country with SSVDM Mr McCormick can usually be found front and centre stage of the crowd at an FM concert, with whom he has developed into an 'acquaintance from the stage'
David Miller is the bedrock of the 'Voodoo Men'. Loud, Proud and more drum kits then you'll care to know about.
David was due to join a previous incarnations of the band in 2010, but Sam moved away to Brighton and made him wait 3 years before trying again in earnest!
Prior to joining the band he lent his drum talents to bands such as Stricken 22 and Kilriki, where he toured the South of the country and played the prestigious Basingstoke LIVE festival on several occasions.
David constantly strives for music nirvana and will forever be honing his chops, but be sure to witness the groove and grit in person.
